"The Imperial Ice Stars are to skating what Cirque du Soleil is to circus:
inspiring, original and great theatre”

Diana Simmonds, Sunday Telegraph

The world’s leading theatrical ice skating company, The Imperial Ice Stars, return to South Africa with a dazzling brand new production - Swan Lake on Ice at Artscape Opera House, Cape Town from Feb 6th – March 2nd and Teatro Montecasino from March 6th – April 6th.

The Imperial Ice Stars enjoyed phenomenal success with their first UK tour in 2005 with The Sleeping Beauty On Ice, a thrilling production that also amazed audiences in 10 countries, playing to over 5,000,000 people worldwide, in prestigious venues such as London’s Sadler’s Wells, the Amsterdam Opera House and Cape Town’s Artscape. Audiences and critics were united in their praise, with the show receiving nightly standing ovations.

Swan Lake On Ice comes to South Africa straight from a sell-out tour of Australia and New Zealand, UK as part of an 80-week world tour, which will also take in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the USA.

OLGA SHARUTENKO, star of the recent TV show Dancing On Ice plays the role of Odette, leading a 25-strong cast of Olympic, World, European and National Championship skaters, who between them have won over 200 competition medals.

The popularity of ice skating has never been higher with rinks across the country reporting a phenomenal rise in numbers of skaters and would-be skaters. Swan Lake on Ice is the ideal opportunity to see how the disciplines and technical demands of world class ice dancing can be taken to the highest possible artistic levels.
The timeless story of Swan Lake, which is performed to Tchaikovsky’s glorious music, tells the tale of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette, a woman transformed into a swan by an evil curse. Odette is destined to remain a strange composite creature, until rescued by a man's undying love. Only the evil Rothbart and his daughter, the black swan Odile, stand in her way of release from the curse.

The Imperial Ice Stars beautifully portray the story of Swan Lake and are destined to thrill audiences with their skill and sublime acrobatic dexterity. The production showcases stunning Olympic-level skating in the intimacy of the theatre – breathtaking triple flips, awe-inspiring aerial gymnastics, double axels, death spirals, bielmanns, triple throw axels and spectacular high speed lifts, unique to the Imperial Ice Stars’ performance.

“ Elegant, sophisticated, stylish and, above all, supremely accomplished”

“ This Swan Lake really flies – juxtaposing lyrism and athletic spectacle with sumptuous
sets and stylish costumes”

A great night out for the family”
