About the Montecasino Theatre and Studio

Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre opened in November 2000 with the record-breaking comedy hit “Defending the Caveman.” Since then it has been the home to the best shows in town! Highlights include “The Graduate”, “Death of a Salesman”, “Stones in his Pockets”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “JC Superstar”, “Hair”, and “Kat and the Kings.” Local and international stars have graced our stage including Bea Arthur, Moira Lister, Bill Flynn, Tim Plewman, Michael Richard, Tobie Cronje, Pieter-Dirk Uys, Marc Lottering and Rex Garner.

In 2003, we opened our 150-seat Studio Theatre with Pieter-Dirk Uys’ “Auditioning Angels.” Over the past few years the Studio has established itself as a leading venue for award-winning, top-quality plays and comedy. Highlights include “Japes”, “Ying Tong”, “Breath of Life”, “Honour”and “Around the World in 80 Days.” Stars that have graced the Studio stage include Fiona Ramsay, Alan Committie, Ashley Dowds, Neels Van Jaarsveld, Shannon Esra, Graham Hopkins, Jana Cilliers, Pamela Nomvette, Dorothy Ann Gould and Theo Landey.
